# Whale watching in Samaná: getting there from AZS or your hotel

Arrange the road journey around your confirmed boat check-in, not simply a destination called “Samaná”. Send the actual meeting address, hotel entrance and return plan. Airport pickup, hotel-to-pier transport and boat tickets are separate arrangements unless your written confirmation explicitly combines them.

## Confirm the season and the exact departure point

Whale watching in Samaná Bay is seasonal, generally between January and March. Confirm the operating dates for your trip with the boat operator; this is not a year-round sailing schedule. Ask whether you must report to an office, a check-in desk or the boarding pier. Samaná town has boat departures, but that does not make every waterfront address the correct meeting point. Keep the operator’s name, address and check-in instructions together. A Cayo Levantado boat connection is not automatically the departure for your whale-watching reservation.

## Your hotel location changes the road journey

[Las Terrenas](https://azsairporttransfer.com/en/azs-to-las-terrenas) is on the Atlantic side of the peninsula, not at the same departure point as Samaná Bay. Give the exact property in Portillo, Playa Bonita or Cosón rather than using Las Terrenas as a catch-all. ## Work backward from check-in, not sailing time

Start with the time the operator requires you to be checked in. Subtract the road journey confirmed for your hotel and pier, then add the contingency allowance agreed with dispatch. Check-in may be earlier than departure. Do not use an AZS-to-hotel drive time for a hotel-to-pier journey, and do not assume a generic “Samaná transfer” covers both. Request the pickup time in writing, with the passenger and luggage count used to select the vehicle.

## Going directly from AZS after landing

A flight’s scheduled landing time is not the time you can leave the airport. Immigration, baggage and customs come before the road journey; a flight delay can remove the available margin. Staying overnight before the excursion gives more flexibility. If you still plan a direct journey, agree what happens if you miss check-in and where luggage can be kept. Agree the return meeting point, contact method and whether the driver waits or comes back later.
