Report the missing bag before leaving
Check with the airline or its handling representative whether unloading is complete and where to report the missing bag. Follow its airport or online process and request a reference number, often called a PIR. Keep the baggage tag, boarding pass and a description or photo of the suitcase. The normal AZS arrival sequence does not replace a baggage report. Do not enter restricted areas again without staff guidance.
Tell the transfer desk why you are delayed
Send the booking name, flight number and a brief update: “Landed at AZS; reporting a missing bag; not ready to leave yet.” Tell dispatch when you are cleared and ready. Flight tracking cannot show how long your report takes. The existing driver meeting guide explains included baggage-related waiting; reconfirm any changed arrangement. If connection is difficult, use the phone and connectivity guide and save the reply.
Agree on the onward hotel journey
Ask the baggage representative what happens next before deciding whether to wait or continue. Do not assume the next flight carries your bag. Once ready, confirm the actual accommodation: Las Terrenas, Samaná town and Las Galeras are different destinations. Give the full hotel or villa address. An airport-to-hotel booking does not automatically include returning later for a suitcase.
Give a usable delivery address
Ask the airline whether delivery is offered to your address, what information or customs formalities it needs and how you will receive updates. Give the property name, address, working telephone number and stay dates. Check whether reception or your host can accept the bag and whether authorization is needed. For a villa, include access instructions. Confirm the receiving point rather than assuming a courier can reach your room or enter a private gate.
Update the file if your accommodation changes
If you have a hotel change planned, update the airline’s baggage file with the next address and dates, and ask it to confirm the change. Updating your transfer booking does not update the airline. Before heading to AZS to collect anything, obtain confirmation that the bag is released, the collection point and hours, and the required ID or authorization. Any extra car journey needs separate availability and a written quote.
Keep the baggage case separate from the car booking
Save the report number, messages and receipts for essential purchases; ask your airline about its own claim process and deadlines. Do not assume every purchase or extra ride will be reimbursed. A transfer driver cannot promise airline delivery or collect a bag on your behalf without confirmed permission. If the item reached you and was then left in the transfer vehicle, use that recovery process instead. Describe any new road journey before agreeing on its price.
Questions we get on this
- Should I leave without filing a report?
- Speak to the airline’s representative before leaving and follow its reporting instructions. Keep your reference number and contact method; do not assume the driver can file the airline report for you.
- Will my bag be delivered to the hotel today?
- Only the responsible baggage team can confirm delivery arrangements. Flight arrival, customs and local delivery can affect timing; do not plan around an unconfirmed same-day promise.
- Can the driver collect the bag later?
- Do not assume so. The airline must confirm release and any authorization; dispatch must separately confirm a suitable journey, availability and price.
