Confirm the two airports and travel dates
AZS is Samaná El Catey; SDQ is Las Américas near Santo Domingo. A road transfer from AZS to SDQ ends at the airport, not a city hotel. Read both airport codes on your tickets and send both flight dates, numbers, airlines and local times. Check dates carefully around midnight. You must leave AZS through the applicable arrival procedures before meeting the vehicle; this is not an airside airport connection.
Work backwards from the SDQ departure requirements
Ask the departing airline for its check-in, bag-drop and boarding deadlines for your flight. Allow separately for its requested airport arrival time, security and the correct terminal entrance. Add a realistic road allowance confirmed with dispatch, plus time to complete your arrival at AZS, collect bags and meet the driver. Do not treat a published drive estimate as a minimum connection time or rely on an on-time landing. There is no single safe interval for every itinerary.
Check baggage and separate-ticket arrangements
Plan to collect your checked bags at AZS and bring all luggage to the car; ask the airlines to confirm the actual baggage instructions for your tickets. Do not assume that an airline will move bags between airports. Check the next flight's size, weight and baggage allowance independently. For separately purchased flights, ask who handles a missed onward flight, what changes are permitted and what costs could arise. A road-transfer confirmation is not airline connection protection or a rebooking agreement.
Book the actual airport-to-airport journey
Send both flight details, the party size, suitcases, large equipment and requested child seats. Use the vehicle and luggage guide to specify your load. State that the destination is SDQ departures and confirm any airline or terminal instructions. Ask for availability, vehicle, total price, waiting and change arrangements in writing through the booking process. Do not assume that a hotel stop, meal break or vehicle waiting through a changed itinerary is included.
Keep the airline and driver informed separately
If the AZS flight is delayed or replaced, contact dispatch with the new details and contact the onward airline about your options. The flight-disruption guide explains updating the pickup. Tracking the inbound flight can help reschedule the car; it cannot keep an SDQ check-in desk or boarding gate open. If the remaining time becomes unsuitable, agree on a revised plan instead of expecting the driver to recover the delay on the road.
Decide your backup before committing
Compare a same-day change with travelling on a later flight or staying overnight when the proposed interval leaves little room for disruption. Confirm accommodation, reception hours and any revised road journey separately; do not assume you can stay overnight inside an airport. Keep both airline contacts and the transfer confirmation available offline. Request transport for the confirmed itinerary and wait for written acceptance of the route and price. This guide covers AZS to SDQ; other directions need their own confirmation.
Questions we get on this
- How many hours do I need between the flights?
- There is no universal minimum here. Obtain the onward airline's deadlines and ask dispatch to assess the complete itinerary, including arrival formalities and luggage, before committing. A drive-time estimate is only one part of the calculation.
- Will my bags be transferred to SDQ automatically?
- Do not assume this. Confirm the instructions for your tickets with the airlines and plan the luggage handover to the road vehicle. Baggage handling at the next airport is separate from the car booking.
- Does flight tracking protect my onward flight?
- No. It helps the transfer desk follow the arrival flight. Airline deadlines, ticket changes and any missed-connection arrangements must be confirmed separately with the airline or ticket seller.
